A Chicken Coop Design & Construction demo presented by MAK Design+Build, in collaboration with Hibbert Lumber, kicks off Tour de Cluck Chicken Skool! This informative coop event is open to all and will be held at Hibbert Lumber, 5th & G St., on Saturday 4/23 at 10 am. If you are considering the leap into the land of chickendom or are experienced but thinking about creating new digs for the girls, you won't want to miss this expert presentation! Just bring yourself and a smile, but please let us know you are coming: cluck.chickenskool@gmail.com or 530-723-6218.

Tour de Cluck visitors are invited to experience a variety of presentations designed to inform their chicken decisions. In addition to the chicken coop demo, prior to the May 14th tour day, The Avid Reader will host a chicken-featured book talk by Robert Litt, acclaimed co-author of A Chicken in Every Yard: The Urban Farm Store's Guide to Chicken Keeping on 5/12 and Spring Warren's Avid Reader book talk will include a peek into her chicken-keeping experience when she presents her recently released Quarter Acre Farm on 4/29. Derek Downey, Davis composting expert, will include the role backyard chickens can play in creating fantastic compost in his composting class at the Whole Earth Festival, 5/6, 7, 8. Check back for detailed updates for these pre-tour day events.

Even more Chicken Skool presentations are scheduled for the day of the Bicycle Coop Crawl, all convenient to the tour route and during coop open hours (10am-3pm). Anna Leslie, Davis backyard poultry wizard and chicken adviser to many, will share “Chicken-keeping Essentials: The Art of Raising Healthy Chicks.” Joining Leslie will be local poultry-savvy 4-H members. Visitors seeking "Grit, Scratch and Feed" tips can consult with Chris Wagner at Modesto Milling Organic Feed’s booth at the Atomic Ranch Coop. For your culinary edification, Davis Food Co-op will offer "Cook to Cluck", a series of egg-cellent classes in their teaching kitchen.

The May 14th presentations will be ongoing throughout the day and marked on the coop map, so drop by while biking the coop loop!
